When Empire State Building decided to change their existing metal halide lighting system to color-changing LED, ESB’s project staff asked TLP to assist. Their goal was to re-create and enhance ESB’s landmarked nighttime appearance while taking advantage of the low-energy, long life and dynamic control provided only by solid state lighting. TLP wrote a performance specification for the new system; participated in a competitive process to select the turn-key system provider; provided technical and creative guidance and worked collaboratively with Philips Color Kinetics on their design of the custom lighting system. TLP also participated in system mock-ups, submittal reviews and commissioning activities. The new system reduces operating cost by over 80% and its crisp, brilliant appearance shows again why ESB remains “The World’s Most Famous Office Building”.
