Student Housing in Lisbon

The Student Housing in Lisbon project reflects the concept of human relations in the projected space and the physical appropriation in the inserted context. The project is a housing complex with the objective of housing undergraduate students and professors from universities, interested in offering basic units of temporary housing to its users. The project, inserted in Bairro da Ajuda, is a direct result of the urban complexity presented and  the relationship of its spaces with the surroundings reflects the analysis of activities and uses generated in that place.

Thus, the architectural concept and the implementation of the student housing project are the result of the application of the concept of integration in two directions: the integration, both of buildings and users, with their built environment and, also, the integration of users within the new projected spaces. The idea is to surprise the users, who from the outside can see facades bordering the sidewalks, always following the feedback and the rhythm of the familiar townhouses of that area. The surprise exists at the moment when users must access the spaces within the terrain, when, suddenly, from narrow points, they find themselves inserted in the amplitude of a large internal square.

Therefore, the Student Housing is the explicit application of the concept of integration at different levels. The integration of users with the space, the integration of users with each other and, finally, the integration of different contexts, the old with the new, in order to continue the relevance of local history.
