First project on my own - remodel of small jewel box residence originally designed by a protégé of David Baker in his own solo debut. The client wanted a desk and had a card table sitting under the stair. After investigation we found that best place for desk was indeed under the stair. We remodeled the stair to change from plywood treads & risers to open slab elm treads to allow light in, and a cantilevered desk that continues from one of the treads. Also designed custom cabinets and furniture. Philip Bachmann did the stair wood. Learned a lot.
