Born and raised in Milwaukee, WI my fascination with the built environment began at a very young age. Setting up my Barbies’ houses but never actually playing with them, unknowingly creating floorplans at age 6 on my dad’s state-of-the-art Window’s 95, earning millions of simoleons so that I could build impressive estates for the Sim families that would shortly thereafter be abandoned; these things were always just my way of entertaining myself. It wasn’t until my second year of college that I realized what I was actually doing, and that perhaps it was worth pursuing as more than just my version of playtime. Now the proud owner of a BS in Interior Design from UW-Madison, I think it’s safe to say that my love affair with spatial visualization has evolved into something slightly more serious. Immediately after graduation in 2011, opportunity knocked and off to New York City I went. “Go big or go home”, I thought to myself. I’ve been in NYC for 2 years now, and every day brings something bigger and newer to learn, and a new adventure to embark upon.
As a natural observer, I have learned that the impact and relevance of the built environment on human life extends far beyond aesthetic beauty. I am passionate about three things: ice cream, baby animals, and most importantly, bringing people’s wild imaginations to life by creating unique, healthy and enveloping experiences where people can emotionally connect with the world around them.
An intense love for travel and human interaction coupled with a perpetual desire to problem solve and learn something new have been driving forces behind all of my work and personal endeavors. While I have worked in a variety of aesthetic capacities from high-end residential design to visual merchandising and wardrobe styling, I find environmental design work to be the most challenging, rewarding and necessary. What we are surrounded by has a profound effect on who we are, how we feel, and how we behave. It is an honor and a privilege to be part of the talented group of people responsible for creating, enabling, and shaping human behavior through physical form and space.
What I love most about design is its synonymity with adventure; always seeking something new, always seeking something different, always producing something meaningful. Adventure means excitement, risk, and exploration of the unknown. From Milwaukee to Madison to Italy and China, and now New York, design has already taken me to amazing places, and I am always anticipating my next great adventure.
