The Winter 2016 edition of Canadian Art magazine featured a 2016 Art School Smart Guide, which profiled art schools in Canada that are "thinking outside the box," including the Daniels Faculty. Alumnus Craig Leonard (MVS 2003), Assistant Professor Charles Stankievech, Professor Lisa Steele, and Associate Professor Kim Tomczak were also featured in the guide.

The guide quoted program director and artist Charles Stankievech, who argued that “Visual Studies at the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design is the only program in the country that combines art and architecture for a BA Honours degree, resulting in a prestigious degree that opens a lot of doors beyond the traditional BFA.” The Daniels Faculty also offers two-year Master of Visual Studies degress in Studio Art or Curatorial Studies, which, the guide notes, is taught by "artists and curators active in the Toronto art scene."

The Smart Guide profiled the practice of Kim Tomczak and Lisa Steele as a way to introduce the work that goes on within the Daniels Faculty. “When we start a new project, we always submerge ourselves into the research, and as collaborators, we talk and argue a lot," say Tomczak and Steele. "Concentrating on the concepts being investigated — rather than obsessing about the materiality — helps refine the finished work. In our teaching, sometimes we have to teach a technical process, but the quicker we can move to the idea being mobilized, the better it is.”

On December 11th, the Daniels Faculty hosted Eyeball, the undergraduate Visual Studies exhibition and party. The event featured student work from all Visual Studies undergraduate studio courses. Below are some photos from the exhibition:
