Elizabeth Golden is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture at the University of Washington. She received her BArch from the University of Arkansas and an MS in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University, GSAPP.
She is a registered architect in the states of New York and Washington, and is also licensed with the Berlin Chamber of Architects in Germany. She has over a decade of professional experience gained while working with internationally recognized firms in Rome, New York, and Berlin–most notably with Renzo Piano / Christoph Kohlbecker GmbH.
In 2013, she co-founded united➃design, an architectural practice currently active on projects serving communities in Afghanistan and Niger. Niamey 2000, united➃design’s proposal for urban housing in Niger’s capital, was recognized by the AIA Seattle with an Award of Merit in 2016.
As project architect, Golden coordinated the design and construction of the Gohar Khatoon Girls’ School, the largest school for girls in Afghanistan. The project was a collaborative venture between the aid organization Sahar, the Balkh Province Ministry of Education, the late architect Robert Hull, and students at the University of Washington. The school has been featured by Architectural Record, Architectural Review, and the BBC World Service.
