Atlanta Architecture Tour with Lunch (Sign-up required/$35 each) Guided by Professors Dr. Carpenter FAIA & Dr. Setiawan
Discovering Atlanta & Contemporary Architecture in Atlanta
A guided tour is planned to be available to highlights of the Atlanta area for an additional fee (see registration). The tour is expected to start around 10:00 AM and end by 2:00 PM. Lunch is included in the tour cos
This tour of Downtown Atlanta begins with an exploration of the cities early history at the railroad tracks at Underground Atlanta and proceeds to the Fairlie Poplar District site of the cities first commercial development and its earliest skyscraper district. Tour will include local landmarks such as the Chandler Building , Coca Cola's first Headquarters, the Healey Building and the Hurt building. Participants will see how Atlanta 's downtown architecture developed from Victorian period styles, to Art Deco, to Modern. Participants will also see John Portman's Peachtree Center and Marcel Breuer's last work the Atlanta Public Library.
This guided bus tour will explore noted contemporary architecture in the Atlanta area including work by noted architects Paul Rudolph and Michael Graves and Atlanta firms like Scogin Elam and Brey, Plexus R+D, and others.
