“Urban Waterfronts” presentation by James Roche, Partner, DTAH, Toronto, Ontario.  

Lecture Summary: This public lecture follows on the conclusion of the City of Milwaukee’s international design charrette for the design of the proposed Harbor Walk along the western bank of Milwaukee’s Inner Harbor.  DTAH was selected as one of the three international teams participating in the charrette.

Bio: James is a landscape architect with over 20 years experience on the design of the public realm spaces for firms in both the United States and Canada. He joined DTAH in 2015 as a partner. His experience encompasses all aspects of public landscape architecture including the design of urban parks, plazas, waterfronts, campus master plans, brownfield developments, streetscapes and transportation-related urban design. His extensive project management work, prior to joining DTAH, includes the direction of design and construction for several award-winning projects in Toronto, in particular Canada’s Sugar Beach, Sherbourne Common Park and Pavilion, Underpass Park, Corktown Common and Pavilion, Pan Am Athlete’s Village Streetscapes, Queens Quay Revitalization, HTO Park, and Dundas Square in downtown Toronto. James is an instructor and sessional lecturer for landscape graduate level seminars and design studios at the University of Toronto, Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design – a position he has held since 2000. He has received recognition for his work on several international design competitions including Stratford Ontario’s Market Square (with Elise Shelley), and the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza (with Elise Shelley and VanTine/Guthrie Architects, Detroit, MI).
