Sam is an designer living in Lawrence, KS. They have a Master of Architecture from the University of Kansas (Class of 2024). They earned their B.S. Interior Design in May of '22, after graduating at the top of their class.
They have a special interest in the in the symbiotic, mutually-defining relationship that people have with the built environment, particularly on the effect of gendered spaces and the way they enforce ideas about the construction of gender. They were a co-presenter at the EDRA 2022: Health in All Design conference, where they shared their work on inclusive restrooms with their research team at Multistudio.
In March of 2024, Sam traveled to Vancouver, Canada, to present their research with Casey Franklin (University of Kansas) concerning trans* and gender-inclusive housing practices in higher education.
Sam is also passionate about environmental justice, public interest design, and serving marginalized communities in all of the work they do. They enjoy writing fiction, cooking and baking in their spare time, and taking long walks with their dog, Moose.
