Citylab was contracted by Local Food First to develop the architectural concept and guiding principles for the New City Market, a 40,000+ SF. state-of-the-art local food hub. Now in the planning phase, the facility is designed to house year-round indoor/outdoor farmers markets, food storage & distribution, commercial processing, business development, local food NGOs, and conference space.
With features such as local energy generation, green roofs, grey-water and storm water management and a structure utilizing reclaimed and environmentally sound materials to the fullest extent possible, the New City Market (aiming for LEED Platinum certification) will contribute to the health of its surrounding neighbourhood and will set the standard as the greenest food distribution building in the Pacific Northwest
