Integrating the Neighborhood and the Creek
The primary goal of the " Green Street" project is to convert the vacant land into a linear park while making BallonaCreek more accessible to the surrounding neighborhood, a high-density area lacking public parks and amenities. The " Green Street" is designed to integrate the creek with the resident's daily lives and activities as a new form of public space.
Water is the main element of this project and the infrastructure of the park is designed to capture, filter and reuse rainwater and gray water from the adjacent neighborhood. This water is used to creat new playful social and recreational spaces.
The various parts of this project, including the natural water filtering and treatment systems and water cisterns, are used to raise people's awareness and to educate the public about issues of water scarcity and sustainability in Los Angeles.
