Architecture Museum- Miro Foundation

Set within the grounds of the Miro Foundation in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, the building was to serve as an architectural museum and gallery.  Not only would the building serve as a host to architectural works and displays, but the building itself needed to be an exhibit when there was nothing within the galleries.

The building creates a barrier between the large apartment towers to the south east of the foundation to focus the attention within the site and back towards the building by Moneo.  The exterior of the gallery is a blank white wall, blocking out what lies within its walls.  Through a slit in the building, you are able to enter into a courtyard which contrasts with the exterior of the building.  This angled facade creates reflections and allows to visitor to catch glimpses of various areas within the gallery space.  This interior courtyard also functions as a additional gallery space in the event that exterior exhibitions were desired.
