Notherly Island - Thesis "Experiencing the Lake Michigan" Chicago, IL - USA - 2007 / Damien Freudenreich

Thesis project untitled "Experiencing the Lake Michigan" mixing architecture, urban planning and landscaping in continuity with Millennium Park.

The new area allows to forget or re discover the City and its architecture depending on which path you walk or bike on. You are immersed in a new hot spot of the town lost between hills, water and nature.

The south half of the Burnham landfill is cut and left totally independent to grow on it s own, full of birds, fish and plants. While the north half welcomes people to enjoy an outdoor concert hall and a restaurant facilities facing the city. A fitness center, a new harbor and a beach allow everyone to escape by facing the Lake Michigan.

The island becomes the new Green Heart of the city, where music is played, the whole skyline of Chicago is seen, knowledge is gathered in public buildings and where the Nature takes back it's place.
