Reviving Kosambi Traditional Market

Kosambi Traditional Market is a dead market where the merchants prefer to be street hawkers outside the market rather than renting inside. In order to enliven this market, a concept of mixed-use project was developed. The concept utilized the potency of Bandung tourism and creativity of the citizens.

Bandung tourism is dominated mainly by ASEAN tourists. Malaysians and Singaporeans hold the high rate in the chart. The motives of their travel is mainly for buying clothes as a recreational activity. Bandung has already had a centre for clothing, but no culinary / snack for gifts centre.

The market planned to be a recreational market, a centre of  tourism gifts and vernacular culinary / snack heaven. Coexist with the market, a third-star hotel and backpackers hotel.

Genious Loci is what this place should be. Creating a space deeply memorable in minds is essential for tourism centre like this. Learning from JERDE Partnership projects such as Namba Parks, Ropponggi Hills, and else, this place is created with unique sense of space and supports city walkability. A space which doesn’t intimidate the users and pays attention to the human scale.
