Mehran Ayati is founder and principal of MehranStudio, a Los Angeles based collaborative studio focused on concept development, design, and construction of projects in architecture, interior, fine arts, industrial design, media and technology. Every project commissioned to MehranStudio is developed through the concerted efforts of a select group of cross disciplinary teams of fabricators, artisans, craftsmen, engineers, and contractors to produce a high quality and cost effective outcome that embraces the art of making.
Mehran’s approach to every design pivots on ecologically sensitive siting strategies, historical context, and innovative use of materials that reflect a creative integration of design and technology. His designs demonstrate thoughtful sensitivity to details and involves extensive research into the site conditions and surrounding context. The works of MehranStudio combines a strong conceptual and theoretical approach with a thorough study of programmatic needs and practical conditions to achieve a design that is both spatially compelling and pragmatically responsive.
Mehran’s education at Harvard University, UCI, UCLA and SCI-Arc covered wide interdisciplinary territories ranging from art, architecture, and engineering to real estate development and investments. He has received Master of Architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design and holds concurrent Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in Studio Art and Bachelor of Science with Distinction in Structural Engineering from University of California at Irvine (UCI). He has also received UCLA Certificate in Real Estate (earned with distinction) with emphasis in commercial real estate development and investment. Early on in his educational studies he also attended SCI-Arc and completed two years of undergraduate studies toward Bachelor of Architecture.

Since 2008, Mehran has been a senior consultant in architecture, interior design, and project management for IDC (a leading architectural firm in KSA) conceptualizing, designing, managing, and implementing various governmental, educational, and commercial projects in Saudi Arabia.
His consulting works at IDC have included:
• Responsible for client contacts with client’s senior authorities to direct, control, and monitor all project activities.
• Developing innovative design concepts which are aesthetically appealing, spatially compelling, and pragmatically responsive while at the same time are reflective of client’s goals and project budgets.
• Preparing design analysis and conducting extensive research into the site conditions and surrounding context to develop the required programmatic documentations such as block studies, planning modules, stacking, and etc.
• Develop and manage programming and layering for space planning, layout of furnishing and equipment, lighting, and color coordination.
• Project team coordination for the finished plans, specifications, material selections, and working drawings required for construction that meets client’s budget and timetables.
