My name is Ross Renjilian, and I recently graduated from The University of Southern California. I am looking for an employment opportunity with an architecture or design firm that will continue to provide a critical design environment in the professional architecture field. Originally from the Chicago land area, I decided to venture west for the opportunities that Los Angeles had to offer. Though Los Angeles has provided excellent learning experiences, the energy and innovative spirit in Chicago remains unrivaled.
Throughout my studies at USC I have motivated myself to always challenge my understanding of scale. In my opinion, Architecture is unique for its flexibility to be understood as a piece of furniture to an entire urban plan. Through my experience urbanism, development and architecture work hand in hand, and one cannot be understood without the other. I participated in a semester abroad that explored urbanism in major metropolises throughout Asia including: Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Shanghai. Through my travels comparing and contrasting these cities gave me a better understanding of the elements that compose the urban fabric. I personally believe that my passion to explore at many different aspects of the built environment shows my drive to not just create buildings, but to create places.
Through various positions including Undergraduate Architecture Student Council President and USC Architectural Guild Student Representative I have displayed many forms of leadership. These organizations encouraged collaboration with my peers, faculty, and leading professionals in the Los Angeles area. With my leadership positions I promoted a more connected university environment through mentorship programs, workshops and a multitude of student events. I also sought out a cross disciplinary approach to learning, which I demonstrated by pursuing classes in the Sol Price School of Public Policy by taking classes focusing on real estate development. Through a variety of planning and development classes tied in with my design studio fostered a better understanding of the multitude of forces that shape the built environment. Design is not only in the environment's physical form, but also in the behind the scene numbers that make green light the project.
Between my strong design background, leadership positions, and understanding of urbanism and development, I feel I would be a great help to your studio. I am available for work immediately. If possible I would further like to discuss my qualifications and interest in your firm, and I hope to have the opportunity to one day be a part of your team.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
