For almost 6 years now, I have been a Design Drafter and Job Captain with a firm in Los Angeles. We specialize in Traditional & Vernacular Architecture. Our style is representative of most anything from Spanish Colonial Revival, to Craftsman, to Georgian Revival. The firm has been involved in a wide range of remodels, additions and ground-up homes for single family use, with LEED practices and some condo and commercial remodels.
Starting in 2003, I attended ITT Technical Institute in San Bernardino. After my first year of school, I acquired a job as a drafter for an RV Manufacturer. There I quickly learned even more about CAD work in an office environment, along with 3D solid modeling. As one of the cabinet specialists I gained knowledge on space planning and framing and coordinating large parts lists.
As I was approaching graduation with my Associates of Arts Degree, I acquired a position as a drafter at a consultant, specifying equipment and space planning for Industrial Kitchens, such as schools and hospitals, and sometimes hotels, in California and Nevada. I learned about stainless steel shop drawings, plumbing, electrical and mechanical specifications, and gained knowledge on ADA and Health Department codes and requirements.
In 2006, I was offered a job in Los Angeles. Relocating from San Diego was difficult, but I knew there was huge potential for me to advance my career. I have gained so much more knowledge of the full scope of our industry and what it means to be an architect. I am the go-to guy in the office, for CAD Standards, including the Detail Library and Plan Templates, Space Planning Clearances and City Building Codes.
I currently use Architectural Desktop 2007 in the office, and have had experience with CAD since 1995. On my own time, I play with Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as exploring alternate methods of drafting with 3D modeling on Google SketchUp.
