About

I am seeking an architectural senior management/technical position to contribute to the success of a quality organization by utilizing my experience in managing projects.  My goal is to improve the organization’s ability to initiate and maintain cooperative relationships with all parties involved in the design and construction process.  I am especially adept at mentoring and  maintaining a high level of communication among all parties involved in the construction process.

My experience includes extensive project types and all phases of architectural services including programming, planning, design, drawings, specifications, construction administration, forensic investigation and remediation.  My approach to each project and work situation has always been to embrace the highest level of integrity and leadership in order to achieve the best possible results the first time. I value the importance of effective communication as evidenced by the completion of the certified public speaking program of Toastmasters International.  I am certified by the NCARB and am currently registered in Florida, New York and New Jersey.   I am also certified by the CSI as a Construction Document Technologist (CDT).  I hold a Certificate in Sustainable Design & Green Buildings from the University of Tennessee and I am preparing for LEED Associate certification.  I am experienced in AutoCAD as well as Microsoft Word and Excel.

While in Tampa I participated in the local American Institute of Architects.  My community involvement included Habitat for Humanity and the Hyde Park Rotary where I served as President and become a Paul Harris Fellow.

Employment

Looney Ricks Kiss, Associate Principal

My most recent full time experience was with Looney Ricks Kiss Architects in Memphis, Tennessee from February 2007 to September 2008. LRK was a 240 person firm with 9 offices. As an Associate Principal I established and oversaw the firm wide quality control program. This program included reviewing architectural and interior projects for document content, clarity and coordination at several stages of document development. I held educational responsibility for communicating lessons learned from past projects as well as new product and system developments. I advised on pre & post construction issues and on consultant selection. I worked closely with support staff executing design plans and finding solutions to unexpected occurrences. I left LRK due to a lack of work which was the result of the declining economy.

Mar 2007 - Oct 2008

Cooper Johnson Smith Architects, Founding Principal

Prior to LRK, I was a founding principal of Cooper Johnson Smith Architects in Tampa, Florida. At CJS Architects I established a twenty year record from July 1985 to July 2006 of professional growth within this major regional firm which specializes in educational and governmental architecture. I was a significant contributor to major multi-million dollar institutional projects on which I provided leadership, planning, resource coordination and troubleshooting to guide projects to profitability. I guided new business development through networking within the community which enabled CJS to acquire major projects throughout the country. My clients included the School District of Hillsborough County, the United States Postal Service, the University of South Florida, Pasco-Hernando Community College, the City of Tampa, the City of Pinellas County and Hillsborough County. I sold my interest CJS Architects to relocate to Memphis to take a position with Looney Ricks Kiss Architects.

Design Arts Group, Associate

Before founding Cooper Johnson Architects (later to become Cooper Johnson Smith Architects), I worked at the Design Arts Group in Tampa from April 1985 to July 1986 as an Associate owner and project manager. My projects included the Heathrow Office Building, the Hartford Insurance Office Building, the Bayshore Regency-High Rise Condominium and Tampa Technology Office Park. I left Design Arts Group to start Cooper Johnson Architects in Tampa.

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), Associate

I was with Skidmore Owings and Merrill, in New York City for 8 years from January 1977 to April 1985 where I achieved Associate level as a job captain. While at SOM my experience included the Hajj Terminal in Saudi Arabia, the Kuwait Commercial Bank, NYU Hospital Ancillary Services Addition, Columbia Presbyterian Community Hospital and New York-Cornell Hospital Master Planning. For a three year period I was responsible for the construction documents and construction administration on the World Trade Center Hotel.
