Hi, my name is Maddie Mitchell, I am graduating from The University of Tennessee in the Spring of 2016 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Interior Design. Throughout college my studios have become a creative outlet, where I've worked to develop projects that cover all aspects of design, from concept to construction documents. I also had the opportunity to take a furniture design studio, where we designed and made furniture pieces through the use of the wood shop or 3D printing. This experience was valuable to my design education in learning how to design furniture detailing and then build it.
In the summer of 2014, I studied abroad in Helsinki, Finland, which broadened my love for traveling and experiencing new cultures. While living there, I was also highly influenced by the design aesthetic, and how human psychology translates into architecture. This past year, I've had two different experiences interning at interior architecture firms. The first was during the summer of 2015, with an award winning interior architecture firm in Chicago called Gary Lee Partners. The firm specializes in hospitality, commercial, and product design, but while I was there I was specifically placed on a team to develop design schemes for a commercial project. This past year I've been interning at Lauderdale Design Group in Knoxville, a small interior design firm that specializes in education, hospitality, and commercial design. The smaller team dynamic has allowed me to have more responsibilities, and therefore become more confident as a designer.
As I am preparing to enter the workplace, I am looking for a junior interior design position at an architecture and design firm that practices innovative design. I hope to be apart of an energetic team where I can contribute to evoking conversations and be able to learn from my coworkers. Apart from design, I am an outgoing and passionate person who loves being active playing sports, and being with family and friends.
