HISTORICAL CONTEXT– Memorial Centre on river Varta Master Project Type: Memorial Location: Poznan, Poland July 2014

The problems of contextualism hold a unique position in theory and practice of architecture. The notion of context, which may be defined as a collection of natural, cultural and historical conditions that are parts of the environment, remains an important topic of theoretical debate, not only in the field of architecture. Actual space, whether it is part of the natural or created environment, is always considered as some kind of a context. Therefore, no architectural object can be seen as isolated entity, but only as a part of particular context. The focus of the study is to analyze the areas of intervention, in this case the river Varta coastline in Poznan, and to find an adequate architectural principles of action. . Highlighting the importance of the emergence of new architectural structure within the urban fabric made the foundation for a joint discussion within the architectural design and urban design, which is established between these two fundamental professions.
