About

In order to be a truly convincing replication of reality (if that is the goal), the imperfections of the living world should be recreated as well; elements like dust, haze, debris, dirt. But what is dust in the digital space? Is it merely a visual depiction of the naturally occurring phenomenon? Could noise in a rendering perhaps stand in place of physical dust in its purpose?  A digital reality has to be duplicitous, creating illusions that escape the watchful human eye.  My work establishes itself as an observer of this phenomenon, weaving between the cracks and crevices of the barrier between the physical and the digital world through the creation of convincing illusions in relation to the larger idea of artificial decomposition. Translations between 3D modeling and animation and physical modeling and drawing allows for moments of intrigue and deceit; the uncanniness forcing us to question our own understanding of the spaces around us.
