ATLANTA – March 6, 2018 – At Southface’s 2018 Greenprints conference on March 12-14, Lord Aeck Sargent will receive a Fulcrum Award in recognition of The Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design’s excellence in sustainable design, construction, planning, and advocacy.

“We proudly recognize The Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design, which truly exemplifies innovative, scalable, and equitable sustainability,” said Andrea Pinabell, president of Southface. “Groundbreaking projects like this help us move further toward a future that is resilient and regenerative.”

Fulcrum Award winners demonstrate excellence in three categories that contribute to a sustainable future: regenerative economy, responsible resource use, and social equity through a healthy built environment for all. To select winners, Southface convened an independent panel of eight jurors who boast expertise in sustainability across a wide range of sectors.

“Lord Aeck Sargent is honored to be working on a project that not only meets the built environment's most rigorous and ambitious performance standard but enriches and elevates our own community,” said Joshua Gassman, LAS Sustainable Design Director and Project Manager for the Kendeda Building. “It is a project that requires us to fundamentally change and expand our approach to sustainability; our goal is to change the conversation in the design and construction economy in our city, region and beyond.”

After a multi-stage, national selection process, which culminated in an ideas competition held by Georgia Tech, the Lord Aeck Sargent (LAS) / The Miller Hull Partnership (Miller Hull) team was selected to design one of the first Living Building Challenge (LBC) certified buildings in the Southeast. The flexible, sustainable research and education building seeks to transform design and construction in hot and humid climates.

Other 2018 Fulcrum Award winners include: Georgia State University’s Leafy Green Machine and Live Thrive Atlanta’s Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM). The Len Foote Hike Inn received a Lifetime Achievement Award honoring its 19 years protecting Georgia’s natural resources and teaching guests about sustainability’s value.
