Kolon Industries exemplifies the contemporary model for innovation. The headquarters is located in the Magok district, an emerging hub for tech and industry that is revitalizing the Han-River area in south-eastern Seoul. Engaging a large public park to the west of the site, the form of the Headquarters floats above a transparent ground plane that extends the landscape to draw light and movement into the interior. Brand stores and exhibition galleries at street level express the Kolon’s vision of sustainability and innovation to the public. To create an environment that supports innovation and encourages exchange between researchers, the new headquarters for Kolon Industries in Seoul combines three different regions of activity: flexible state-of-the art laboratory facilities; a centralized circulation hall and grand stair for chance encounters; and a diverse program

of social and community spaces. Moving from structured activity to more informal interaction, a fertile gradient of activity occurs as researchers move through the building towards the park.
