Tremont Street Penthouse

This project is located on the upper two floors of an 18 story building with sweeping views of Boston.  At its inception, the clients purchased two 1800 square foot units as almost completely empty shells.  The firm was charged with the task of developing this space into a two level penthouse.  The project was a challenge due to existing window and plumbing locations, as well as the concrete structure of the building.  In the end, the firm was able to transform the shell into a showplace for the clients and their art collection.

The clients love to entertain, so the space was designed with this in mind as a primary function.  Guests enter and are greeted by a double height living room flooded with natural light from the skylight which crowns the space.  The stair hall, dining room, solarium and terrace with panoramic views, complete the “public” side of the residence.  This dramatic space creates the ideal backdrop for the clients many parties.  The rear of the residence takes on a far more domestic character with the warm paneled family room “library” complete with cozy alcoves.

One unique feature of the second floor is the open balcony connecting the master bedroom to the master bath and dressing rooms.  This walk is screened from the view of guests below by a high wall decorated with an iron and bronze handrail, while affording the owners with a stunning view of their artwork and the living room.
