Now and then you come upon a house that simply seems to fit. Complementing its owners’ lives and tastes, it occupies the land and neighborhood comfortably, as if it had been there forever. Proportions, details, materials, and quality of workmanship make every line and corner feel almost inevitable. Antiques and technology, dramatic artworks and relaxing gardens coexist within an easy continuum of past and present.
With care and creativity, Jones & Boer Architects makes such houses possible today.
Working from a studio atop a former townhouse in the Dupont Circle neighborhood, Jones & Boer Architects designs houses that fit throughout the Washington area and beyond.
Architect David Jones’s background includes undergraduate and professional degrees from Princeton, study at King’s College, Cambridge, and work with Washington’s Hartman-Cox Architects. Architect Wouter Boer, who joined David’s practice in 2003 and has taught in the University of Maryland’s graduate program, studied architecture in his native New Zealand and holds a professional degree from Notre Dame. A staff of architects works with David and Wouter to guide each project, and each owner, through the processes of early decision-making, preliminary and final design, construction drawings, builder selection, and contract administration.
For over thirty years the firm has won design awards and enjoyed a national reputation, including publication in books (Classical Interiors, Nice House), print periodicals (Traditional Home, Period Homes, Veranda, Architectural Digest), and online.
