Reports To:          Senior Marketing Manger / Director, Commercial – N. America

 

Summary:

Core activities involve proposal preparation, development of marketing collateral and presentations, and management of primary (Commercial) and secondary (Transportation, Urban Design, Turkey) markets. The Marketing Coordinator works closely with Marketing Department professionals, SOM Partners, Directors, Associate Directors, and other Design Studio staff to identify potential opportunities, pursue new work, promote past work, and communicate the firm’s expertise and design ethos.

General responsibilities include:

  • Prepare architectural qualifications, proposals, and competitions.
  • Write about SOM’s work with clarity and creativity.
  • Create graphic layouts for proposals and presentations that are clear and elegant.
  • Create PowerPoint shows for interviews and business development presentations.
  • Learn and promote SOM’s portfolio of projects.
  • Identify sub-consultants for proposal teams, in collaboration with others.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategy, in collaboration with others.
  • Develop and maintain positive client relations.
  • Support business development initiatives.

 

Position Context:

SOM’s New York Marketing Department typically has a staff of 7, including staff that cover both geographically and functionally-based markets.

Qualifications:

Education: Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree. Relevant degrees and course work include Liberal Arts, Architecture, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, and Journalism/Communications.

Expertise: An ability to write well is critical. Typical writing tasks include creating texts for project pages, case studies, resumes, cover letters, and other formats to describe and promote the firm’s work. A good eye for graphic design and presentation is very important.

Computer: Proficiency in InDesign is essential. The ability to use Powerpoint, Photoshop, and other presentation and graphic tools is very important.

Experience: 3 years of professional experience.

Motivation: Individual must be hard-working, take ownership of their work, have a high standard for presentation and preparation of materials, and be an organized professional who is motivated, curious, and excited about architectural design.
