Kees Kaan interview in the October 2014 issue of de Architect magazine 
de Architect magazine has included, in its October 2014 issue, an extensive interview with Kees Kaan about the start-up in architecture, how in 1987 he founded together with Felix Claus their firm Claus en Kaan Architecten. And how after 25 years he decided to give new energy to his practice by founding KAAN Architecten together with Dikkie Scipio and Vincent Panhuysen.



Netherlands Forensic Institute 10 years Anniversary 
The glazed volume in a steel box building, known as The Netherlands Forensic Institute in Ypenburg, The Hague (NL) has met its 10th Anniversary since the  building's completion in 2004. Kees Kaan attended a small internal event with the NFI employees to discuss the building and its facilities, and the role of KAAN Architecten during the stages of construction.

 


City Hall Park on show for "The City as a Vision" exhibition at FRAC Centre
The project for the City Hall Park of São Paulo (Brazil), KAAN Architecten designed together with DOMAIN, is part of the exhibition "The City as a Vision" opened on September 19th, 2014 at the FRAC Centre - Les Turbulences in Orléans (France). The project will be on show until February 22nd, 2015. Have a look at the news.

 


Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp (Belgium)
The last two weekends of August the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp (Belgium) opened its doors to visit the construction and restoration site of the new "vertical museum" designed by KAAN ArchitectenHere more images about the project.

 

PUBLICATIONS 

Kees Kaan essay and PLANTA featured in the September 2014 issue of Domus 
PLANTA in Lleida (Spain) is being presented in the latest edition of Domus magazine. A wide article shown in 4 pages (pp42-45) including Kees Kaan essay "Time puts everything in place".
"Inside a quarry profoundly marked by nature and human effort, KAAN Architecten builds a project for Fundació Sorigué that is less of a building than a super-horizontal platform constructed from on-site materials" say the editors.


Dikkie Scipio text on ZAAL Z  magazine no.10
The 10th issue of ZAAL Z Koninklijk Museum Voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen Magazine (Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium) has been released and it features Dikkie Scipio's column "Invisible", as the new museum infringes as little as possible upon the character of the old museum, it remains invisible. You can read the full English version of the article via this link.
 

ON THE BOARD

Second construction phase in The Hague
The construction site of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands in The Hague is evolving. Photographer Dominique Panhuysen is showing us how the building grows with a deep on-site reportage. The next phase will see the completion of the main structure by the end of January 2015. 

 


First construction phase of the French projects designed by KAAN Architecten  

Institut des Sciences Moléculaires d'Orsayin Paris (above right) and Chambre des Métiers et de l'Artisanat in Lille (above left) are about to start their first construction phase. Follow the news in our website for up-coming information.

 

ACADEMIC & AWARDS


Chair Introduction - Autumn 2014 
Kees Kaan and Olindo Caso gave a general introduction of the new academic year of Complex Projects chair for the master class students of TU Delft University. Intro was followed by a Kees Kaan’s lecture on the chair vision and by the presentation of G1 group’s project (Narina Gyulkhasyan, Marija Mateljan, Hrvoje Smidihen). Philippe Rotthier European Award of Architecture 2014 and prize exhibition
The District Water Board Brabantse Delta in Breda (The Netherlands) has received a special mention in the 10th edition of the European Prize of Architecture Philippe Rotthier 2014 in the “Landscape” category. The project shows a design where new and old meet each other in an ensemble of conservation and innovation. The project will be on show at the Foundation pour l'Architecture in Brussels from October 18th, 2014 as part of the prize exhibition.

 

Kickoff Studio Amsterdam, featuring Antonio Cruz and Antonio Ortiz as special guests.
Last Friday, 10th of October 2014, was the Studio Amsterdam kickoff, a collaboration between the Spatial Planning Department of Amsterdam and TU Delft Department of Architecture. Ortiz gave an extensive lecture on his view of the Plantage area, its isolation, lack of diverse use and certain non functional places. The introduction lecture is officially scheduled on October 30th - h 5pm.For more information, click here.
