Suspended above the Mission Beach boardwalk within the historic Belmont Park in California, guests enjoy sushi and drinks beachside at San Diego’s largest oceanfront rooftop restaurant and bar. In addition to spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and something uniquely American and timeless about the backyard culture created here, the dining destination boasts a full-service bar, lounge area with fire pits and communal seating, and decor that invites guests to step into a playful mock swim-up bar without the water.
The design concept is a juxtaposition of the average American backyard pool, mixed with the style and hospitality of a pool deck found at popular hotels and resorts. The space is also reminiscent of lazy beach days and time spent with loved ones at barbeque gatherings; memories translated into a lively new rooftop restaurant. Glass walls encasing the rooftop provide a clear sight line to the ocean, merging the beach into a unique dining setting.
Several aquatic-themed elements can be found throughout this 400-seat restaurant, including traditional poolside chairs, beach balls converted into light fixtures, limestone, colorful glazed tiles, weathered wood, pool lane lines strung along the ceiling, kickboards, life preserves and other pool accessories. Playful nods to the thoughtfully-themed decor also include pool tiles lining the restaurant perimeter with watermarks and clever signage reading “no depth” or “swim at your own risk”. With flooring laid in a pixelated pattern depicting the changing colors of waves, and finish on the walls similar to pool lining, this rooftop retreat blends seamlessly with the ocean itself. Final additions, such as a glass elevator which will be completed by Summer 2014, will also lead guests to the sushi bar and distinguish the venue from other dining properties.
