As part of the Austin Art in Public Places program, the project called for an original work of art that also served as a bike rack for the renovated West Enfield Pool. The minimum requirements were for the sculpture to hold 4 bicycles, and withstand the elements. The design concepts: the lockable interface of a bicycle, active water, and light and shadow play, arose out of discussions between the various project constituents while walking the site. The fabrication process will consist of water jet cutting steel sheets which will be bent, welded, and then powder coated. After the structural frame and welded panel families are assembled, the components will be transported to the site for further assembly. Installation is scheduled for January of 2013, at the tail end of the overall pool renovation.
