The architect Benedetta Tagliabue (EMBT/Fundació Enric Miralles) and the stagedirector Àlex Ollé (La Fura dels Baus) are organising a significant intervention inthe city this year. In the context of the commemoration events encompassed in theTercentenary BCN programme, some of Barcelona’s most symbolic public spaces willchange thanks to a set of artistic and architectural installations that propose a reflectionupon such concepts as identity, freedom and democracy.
The first installation will take place in May in Ciutadella Park. Inspired in the old citywall and its subsequent destruction, this action by Benedetta Tagliabue and Àlex Olléwill symbolise the recovery of the city by its citizens. The idea of reconstruction anddestruction of the rampart and of the walls of the world will make way for the creationof six ephemeral installations designed by six international architects, in conjunctionwith Barcelona’s leading schools of architecture and design. They will be erected inPlaça dels Àngels, Plaça de Salvador Seguí, Plaça de la Mercè, Plaça Nova, Plaça delMar and Arc de Triomf.
Studio Odile Decq, Peter Cook and Yael Reisner, Grafton Architects, ETH Zürich& Urban–Think Tank, Anupama Kundoo and Urbanus are the guest architects fromFrance, the United Kingdom, Israel, Ireland, Switzerland, Venezuela, Australia, Indiaand China.
