DNB's 70.000 m2 headquarter consists of 3 buildings on which the architecture firms Dark Arkitekter, a-lab and MVRDV are collaborating on design and architecture. MVRDV is responsible for Building A (the central building), with Dark Arkitekter AS as local architects. Building A is 37.000 m2 and was completed autumn 2012.

The pixelated design is adapted to the urban context. It combines a big and flexibel spatial organization split into effective work zones and varied common areas, a shielded public passageway through the building at ground level, and sightlines from the city behind.

The general workspace areas are subdivided and partially withdrawn to create room for common areas both inside and outside the building, and outstanding daylight conditions.

The pixelated design enables a flexible adaption of the building volume to its surroundings and allows each story to be unique while being general as well.

In addition to more than 2000 workspaces, the building also contains a cafeteria with 140 seats at the top, an "executive lounge" with a view to the fjord, the "brokers hall" with 250 workspaces, main entrance with reception and access to common areas at ground 0.

These areas are connected by a continous spatial route from ground floor to the top, running through the entire building by stairs and bridges between the stories, creating common areas and informal meeting places for people working here, across departments and branches. The common areas contain mini kitchens, lounges, art and access to the terraces outside.

In contrast to the rest of the building, the common areas are clad in glass, maximizing view and light conditions.
