we call ourselves "workshop" because we like to create stuff.
we are a multi-disciplinary creative duo. our interests range from tiny mundane objects to large scale buildings and everything in between. you can spot us having heated discussions over a bowl of ramen or enjoying the LA sunshine with our pup. wherever or whatever we are up to, we are constantly thinking of ways to better our surroundings through design.
one half of wrk-shp is a womens clothing line inspired heavily by architecture & designed using imported textiles from Japan. the other half is focused on product design, where we create high quality furniture, lighting, and accessories all made in USA.
wrk-shp is run by an architect Ryan Upton & an architect-turned-fashion designer, Airi Isoda.
prior to her entry into fashion, airi earned a bachelor of architecture degree and worked for a number of prominent firms in los angeles. her designs are influenced by art & the built environment -- she strives to find the connection between architecture and fashion, reflecting on the urban landscapes where the two meet. having lived in six countries and seven cities, her style translates internationally. she travels between tokyo & los angeles.
having lived on all three coasts of the united states, ryan developed a seeker mentality and a high level of curiosity. he sees design, good or bad, in everything that surrounds him from leaf shapes to curb cuts. never bored with whatever city he finds himself in, you can find him at the nearest art opening or music venue. he travels between tokyo & los angeles with airi.
