Drifting City is founded on the idea that one can be in two places at the same time. Its aim is to creatively explore the site-specific consequences of this position, in Architecture, Media, and Public Space. Drifting City is two hyper-linked studios, working in Greece and California, sharing divergent expertise, scholarship and craftsmanship. Located in two similar basins, along two dissimilar edges, Drifting City is motivated by the juxtaposition and confluence of place: just before departure, right after arrival.
Drifting City understands global culture, the urban collective unconscious and contemporary landscapes as complex and emergent processes, unwished-for resultants of individual wills, and indescribable systems of change. It does not wish to represent those in form. It has resolved, instead, to invent navigation machines and build sound, time-active structures, on their shifting traces. Collages rather than swarms; faults rather than topographies; gardens rather than landmarks; images rather than representations.
Drifting City works round the clock. It produces work of visual, conceptual and material quality across a variety of scales. To do so, it invents systems of work, site-analyses and collaborative platforms unique to each project. It rediscovers places, re-conceives needs and combines uses through efficient design and planning, expert image-making, creative technology and consistent storytelling.
