Established by Jason Ivaliotis and Nicholas Kothari, VERSA was conceived as an interdisciplinary practice to transcend the boundaries of space and time. As a visionary design and research collaborative based in New York, we operate across a wide spectrum of disciplines, challenging the status quo and evolving with each new project. Our clients are an important catalyst and our team remains VERSA-tile, equipped with a wide range of diverse skills and state of the art design tools that cater to an ever expanding discourse about what is possible.

Offering a wide array of design services including environmental design, interior design, product design, media and film production, graphic design and branding, digital fabrication, web design, digital visualization and photorealistic representation, Versa operates at multiple levels and across a multitude of design disciplines to best serve the needs of our diverse clientele. Our specialized Interior Design focus includes Boutique Hotels, Hi-End Restaurants, Executive Clubs, Night Club/Lounges, retail interiors and 5-Star Resorts.  Combining professional expertise with the visionary experimentation of academia and a dedication to futuristic innovation, Versa delivers solutions that are trend setting and forward thinking to respond to the expectations of a new generation of clients. We make the intangible tangible, operating between the virtual and the physical and allowing each new project to inform the next in an endless feedback loop of information.

At VERSA there are no boundaries and every project represents a unique challenge. We are the creators of human experience in both the virtual and physical realms, mastering digital visualization, spatial articulation and the design of the built environment. Our diverse, interdisciplinary team of professionals approaches design from multiple perspectives as both a fine art and an applied science that remains fluid and VERSA-tile, to serve the needs of an ever changing society.

HOW WE WORK

Design does not exist in a vacuum and we believe that all disciplines feed off of each other. At VERSA we can draw from expertise in a variety of areas and from a variety of different perspectives to offer design that is sensitive to the client’s needs and the human experience. Through the establishment of the VERSA Global Network, we collaborate with architects, artists, developers, film producers and publishers from around the world to develop comprehensive design solutions. This type of collaboration allows our team to maintain a virtual presence and/or set up portable studios in any location to operate on a global scale. Our Digital Visualization and web design team works closely with architects and developers, giving them a competitive edge to win projects or market a product to prospective clients. We offer our extensive experience to guide our clients in establishing budgets based on market research and the factors that will make each individual project a success.

From the design of interior environments to our most complex virtual simulations and web projects, VERSA’s design strategy seeks to excite, enchant, intrigue, educate, enrich, innovate and engage the end user by developing new avenues of virtual and physical interaction. Our projects reflect an intense focus on material articulation, aesthetic representation, spatial choreography and the use of poly-scalar relationships. We balance design vision with environmental constraints and a focus on client comfort. Our projects reflect an acute sensitivity for shifting cultural and social dynamics and how they work to shape the physical environment and effective design solutions.

At Versa we believe that research and communication is the key to successful design solutions that engage the public on a fundamental level. Our research initiatives and journalistic endeavors enable us to remain in sync with the pulse of society from inside the designer’s world looking out, and vice- VERSA. We maintain a close connection to the experimental design laboratories of academia, teaching seminars in advanced digital fabrication and virtual simulation and serving as visiting design critics at various universities around the globe. VERSA’s design directors have also emerged as leaders in architectural theory, professional advancement, research and graphic analysis, acting as design journalists, lecturers, and regional editors for various publications.  We have established strategic partnerships with design industry leaders and software developers to remain on the cutting edge of the profession, utilizing state of the art tools and incorporating new methodologies into our academic and professional endeavors. One of our founding principles includes the belief that the physical environment and social needs are constantly in flux and design methodologies should be continuously reevaluated. As a result, our special events and film projects document contemporary design innovation, focusing on fundamental shifts in methodology and departures from the status quo that result in new design trajectories for the 21st century.
