Wayward Plants develops imaginative responses for derelict sites, underutilized land and interim spaces. A platform for strategic co-designing with communities, Wayward Plants creates structures for participation, through an open collective of designers, artists, guerrilla gardeners and urban growers. At the center of our practice are plant exchanges, drawing together social narratives through the creation of community gardens.
In 2010, Wayward Plants was commissioned by the Architecture Foundation to design and produce the acclaimed Union Street Urban Orchard for the London Festival of Architecture. Engaging more than 100 volunteers, we transformed a derelict site into a thriving community orchard out of reclaimed and recycled materials. Wayward Plants are now designing and producing the Urban Physic Garden - a pop-up apothecary and community build garden of medicinal plants.
Wayward Plants has exhibited internationally, including the Barbican London, the Graham Foundation Chicago. the Canadian Centre for Architecture Montreal, and the Metis International Garden Festival in Quebec.
