Father's Office

Owner and renowned chef, Yoon wanted to keep the warm and intimate local tavern feeling of the original Father’s Office in Santa Monica, yet provide more space and accessibility to the highly anticipated second location in the historic Helm’s Bakery Building in Culver City, CA. In his work to redefine the idea of a neighborhood pub, Yoon partnered with the architects at (fer) studio to create a warm, intimate surrounding with more space and accessibility to the bar and a new patio. The unique setting exudes the community feeling of a tavern, and keeps not only the people flowing easily through the space, but beer flowing from the 50 foot long bar as well.

In order to achieve an intimate setting, the architects at (fer) studio designed lowered soffits composed of an open wood ceiling system with recessed lighting over the dining tables, and concealed acoustic insulation to help reduce ambient noise. Mirrored glass inserts set within the wood birch wall panels then fill the room with a random pattern to help create a sparkle, and to showcase the interactions of people throughout the room.

A 50 foot long bar, which runs the entire length of the room is an essential element to the design of Father’s Office, and proudly features 31 taps of exotic beers from around the world to ensure everybody gets a chance to order quickly and sample their fill. The taps are framed in two glowing amber boxed composed of spectacular wood and a stainless steel face. Some new features of the Culver City location are the community washroom and outdoor patio. The
architects at (fer) studio designed a community washroom which acts as a focal space for separate
restrooms, with bock beer colored mosaic tiles, a bronze mirror and concrete sink. The lowered wood soffit in the washroom also ties in perfectly with the soffit over the bar area and maintains continuity. The covered outdoor patio allows three direct access points to the main bar. Recessed lighting, heated lamps and the black steel beam canopy are included to blend the outdoor experience seamlessly with the main bar area.

Faithful patrons and new converts to the Father’s Office experience will be very pleased with the warm, intimate community vibe of the new location at the Helms Bakery Building, and can expect to order any of the 31 beers on tap much quicker, enjoy tons more room inside, a new outdoor patio, and maybe even get a table. Oh, and did I mention the burgers?
