City Sport

This project is a landscape design in Bucktown. The owners purchased a lot next to their home to create outdoor space for their family. Program requirements included a sport court, landscaped yard, space for entertaining, and a two-car garage with glass doors that face the yard.

Our design is divided into four zones: terrace, sport court, garden, and garage. The terrace is located on a concrete plinth with metal railings and integrated LED lighting. This space offers views over the garden and acts as a buffer between the garage and sport court. It is accessed by floating steps that balance the weight of the concrete and wrap the wall to provide bench seating for the sport court.

The sport court and garden are enclosed by cedar fencing and angled planters fabricated in concrete and CorTen steel. Hornbeam and Whitespire birch trees offer shade and promote a sense of park-like space. The effect is a rich interplay of textures and surfaces that maintains privacy and security. Synthetic turf between the sport court and garden wall provides a low-maintenance surface for recreation.
