Derek Trusler is a recognised local Architect undertaking projects in residential commercial/retail, and industrial architecture. Derek works on small, medium and large scale mixed use and residential projects for local clients.
Derek was the Master Architect for the planning and design of Brisbane’s Busway Stations and the construction and related public transport Infrastructure in South East Queensland having won two national design competitions. From 1996-2001 and from 2005 -2012 was the principle master consulting architect to the Department of Transport and Main Roads and Translink for the design, development and construction of Busway Infrastructure and bus public transport in SEQ.
Derek continues to work internationally as an APEC architect with specialised planning, design, marketing and promoting expertise in transportation. He is one of the worlds leading global experts in the planning and design of bus rapid transit facilities for cities in Australia, China, South East Asia, and the US. He is involved in the early conceptualisation, detail design and construction auditing of passenger transit projects and quality large scale infrastructure. He has been engaged as master architect and senior advisor for multimodal, integrated transport projects in 16 cities, 10 countries and on 4 continents. Cities include Brisbane and Sydney in Australia, Chicago in USA, Al Ain in UAE, Guangzhou, Lanzhou, Yichang,

Wuhan and Fuzhou in China, Cebu in Philippines, Vientiane in Laos, Ulaanbata in Mongolia, Bangalore in India, Jakarta in Indonesia, Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru in Malaysia.
Derek has been principal advisor to Department of Transport and Main Roads in QLD (1996 -2012) and an international consultant to ITDP (Institute of Transportation and Development Policy - New York and China 2005 - Present) a not for profit NGO. Derek has maintained his business relationships with TMR (QLD), Transport NSW and ITDP.
The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Royal Australian Institute of Architects has certified Derek Trusler as a professional engaged in international trade and investment with all 21 APEC economies.
Derek has provided local and national architectural services in commercial, residential, retail and industrial projects. He has a depth of architectural design experience, functional planning skills and technical knowledge for many stand alone and mixed use developments. Derek knows how to plan, design and realise small to large scale development projects.
Derek has received AIA awards with winning planning and design outcomes in transport, commercial, civic, residential and industrial architecture.

Derek Trusler is the senior advisor in new business development and marketplace research directly to the Directors for the company’s provision of Geo-engineering services in all areas of Building, Infrastructure and the Resources sector. Derek’s focus is on research, marketing, selling and building long-term business relationships based on the project development strategies of private and public sector clients seeking these engineering services. This includes meeting, presenting and selling to clients Geo-engineering consultancy services for their projects.
The primary tasks and activities include:
• Providing the Directors an understanding of the corporate organisational structures and the key decision making personnel of public institutions and private companies in the marketplace seeking Geo-engineering services.
• Understanding and providing organisational structures which illustrate the key personal, reporting relationships and their roles,
• Documenting the ways in which companies wish to do business, who purchases services and ways to maintain the longterm relationships for these services with these key personnel,
• Calling, arranging, greeting, meeting and selling services to new and existing clients.
• Writing EOI’s, Capability Statements, Tender Submissions, presentations and marketing material to pursue business opportunities, win tenders and to grow good business; and
• To represent the company.
Derek holds a Bachelor of Architecture, a Fellow of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects and is a senior representative with recognised institutions in business including Consult Australia.
Derek’s professional work, his technical knowledge in architecture, construction and interpersonal skills attract a wide range of new and existing clients. He has credibility in the public sector and his success with projects within the construction industry in transportation, commercial, residential, industrial and urban design are recognised and well respected. He has an enviable track record of completed public infrastructure projects creating a platform with which to apply his business development skills in the local, regional and national marketplace. Recently he has worked in offices in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Perth and Sydney and he has worked extensively with clients and staff in each of the state offices to undertake proposals, projects and develop important client relationships to realise business opportunities.
