CAMBA Hegeman Avenue

Hegeman Avenue Apartments is a new affordable and supportive housing development in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn. CAMBA/CAMBA Housing Ventures (CHV), in partnership with HPD’s Supportive Housing Loan Program, New York State’s HCR (NYS Homes & Community Renewal) and HHAP (Homeless Housing Assistance Program) programs, engaged Dattner Architects to transform an underutilized, vacant site into 71 units of affordable and supportive housing. This new eight-story building offers housing for residents of the neighborhood and the larger New York City community, with 42 units set aside for formerly homeless individuals.

The project has participated in the Enterprise Green Communities Initiative, with sustainable features including a high performance building envelope, energy saving light fixtures and appliances, water saving plumbing fixtures, low VOC paints, and durable interior materials for ease of maintenance. It was designed to be “solar ready” for a future rooftop photovoltaic array. Building amenities include 24-hour security, on-site social services, day-lit corridors and stairs, laundry, community and computer rooms, and landscaped street and rear courtyards for tenant use.
