Campus Area in Industrial Buildings

Completed 2013

At Nørrebro in part of a former working class area a major transformation has turned a former printing firm into student campus. Backyards previously closed area with both large and small industries, but now involved actively in the vibrant district. The original buildings were erected in the early 1950s after an american industrial concept. The campus opened up - literally. The topography of the place is different, for example, the ground floor of the production building high for both the surrounding streets. By lowering the street level on both sides of the main building to establish a public walkway for pedestrians through the middle of campus and thus created two new public space, 'farm' and 'study site'. KEA has given a second passage linking the area together. All necessary solutions has a simple and regular expression with the charm that characterize industrial buildings from the periods. The interior is designed with open rooms where the students are able to zap on and off after their interests, like they do in the social media in the internet. The project is a 3 dimensional translation of the web 2.0 change from a “push society” to a “pull society”.
