bSTUDIO is a New York City based multi-disciplinary practice with projects ranging in scale from a 500,000 SF multi-story international commercial office complex to 500 SF residential renovations in New York City. Our methodology is focused on the intersection of the speculative, representational, and the built. Integral to every project is a desire to stretch the imaginative bounds of quotidian objects, programs, and materials to reveal latent graphic, spatial, and tactile relationships in an engaging way. Our approach thoroughly examines the parameters of a given set of constraints such as codes, zoning restrictions, schedule, budget, and program, and views these challenges as opportunities for invention. Our approach is innovative in its outcomes, enthusiastic in its ambition, and professional in its method. Each solution cohesively addresses function, form, and experience with a carefully curated palette of materials, textures, lighting, and finishes. Rather than imposing a predetermined style or formal agenda on a project, we embrace each project’s realities as catalysts for innovation and endeavor to produce cohesive environments and products which surpass preconceived notions.
At the core of our designs is the ability to take a fresh look at things through experienced eyes. We have developed a diverse body of built work including residential, commercial, and hospitality commissions, all with empathy for nature and a sensitivity to ecological systems. Sustainable design is inherent to each project and is approached with the desire to improve the quality of the user’s experience of our spaces while treading lightly on our planet and respecting the program, budget, and schedule. bSTUDIO supports an attitude that two heads are better than one which is why we collaborate with external consultants whenever relevant to offer architectural, interior, furniture, lighting, product, and graphic design services in the US and abroad. Our intent in this use of complementing resources is to ensure that our projects will never suffer from being conventional, narrow-minded, or naïve.
