Greers Ferry Water Garden Park

The University of Arkansas Community Design Center was given the opportunity to complete the vision of Edward Durell Stone for a 300-acre garden park of national significance in central Arkansas. The vision was originally inspired from the fountains and landscaped gardens of Villa d'Este in Tivoli, Italy.

A concept design was drawn by Edward Durell Stone at the request of Herbert Thomas and Robert Fulbright then presented to President John Kennedy in 1963, which won his approval. However, the plan quickly deteriorated only weeks later at the President's death and has not resurfaced until this past year.

As a part of the Community Design Center, the purpose of my proposal was to retain the vision of Ed Stone while updating it to modern standards, contemporize its relationship with the hydrology of the site, and program activities to complement existing tourism of Greers Ferry Lake.
