NYC Sky Condo - New York Farm Tower
AWR - Architecture Workshop
Description
The High Line didn’t appear out of thin air, but thin air played a role in its development. For decades, the High Line had been seen as an ugly obstacle to neighborhood redevelopment. Comprehensive rezoning of the area and provisions to allow the transfer of development rights turned the structure into an asset. During the construction of the High Line the whole district of Chelsea has undergone a major transformation. Many buildings have been rehabilitated and many are under construction. Hence the idea of this contest, converting a space that is now a parking lot, near the elevated square formed by the High Line’s crossing of 10 th avenue and 17th street, in a building that represents the new relationship between people and nature. The competition involves the design of a vertical farm with a residential use in NY and the related reorganization of the environment.
