Silvia Galván Condesa

Located in the fashionable Condesa neighborhood of Mexico City, the Silvia Galván beauty salon was designed on the basis of an intervention in a residential building constructed in the 1930s.

The intervention sought to avoid altering the building’s original façade, and for this reason both the structure and the Art Deco-style details of the façade and interior were left intact. We carefully selected materials and a color palette with the intention of establishing a contemporary, fresh ambiance, which combines with the history of the site to create a local identity that will connect with clients.

We wanted to echo aspects of the original period style by employing a range of textures for the finishes that present a striking rhythm and geometry.

The total floor area of the space is 668 m2 over three floors and a roof terrace which offers views of the surroundings.

The service and circulation nucleus is accommodated at the center in order to free up the working areas. The perimeter walls become a kind of multi-purpose cabinet with areas for waiting, storage and exhibition of products. Changes in the flooring materials serve to emphasize shifts in the program from circulation to working areas. Color and vegetation are used to highlight specific spaces, focusing attention on experiences.

The ground floor contains the reception, waiting area, express services, storage, supplier area and garage. The other floors are reached via the staircase situated by the main entrance to the building.

The Hair Lab is found on the first floor, with the hair washing area accentuated by natural vegetation and views of the sky via a triple-height skylight, which also provides the micropigmentation area on the second floor with natural lighting. The hair dyeing area is in a double-height space with a 5.85 m ceiling height, creating a sense of spaciousness and connection with the other areas on the next floor.

On the third floor, we created a roof terrace with a view of the park, complementing the project program with a coffee bar for clients in a fresh, relaxed and contemporary space.
