BASQUE CULINARY SCHOOL

The building is intended to create a learning landscape. The roof landscape follows the sloping topography of the park and is punctuated by courtyard gardens, ensuring that all spaces within are flooded with daylight and maximise the use of natural cross-ventilation. The courtyards therefore generate an internal transparency as well as allowing multiple views from inside across the park and the San Sebastian bay beyond. Ramped corridor circulation spaces connect all rooms and functional zones to street level entrances. Short cuts with gentle steps are provided at a number of points in the building. Visitors walk across the roofscape, entering via a ramp descending into a herb garden courtyard. The building is designed to minimize energy loss through the building fabric by being integrated into the landscape.
