Writer's Block

Writer’s Block Carriage House

The site is located in the city of Savannah and it lodged between two buildings and cut off by a lane. The house is designed for a Novelist. The house is made to imitate the writer’s work. It reaches out into the lane and beyond where the writer reaches out to their readers through their work. The house also allows the writer to catch glimpses of what lays beyond the lane in front of the house by slightly jetting out into the lane on the second floor. The house is based off a block which is also the most basic form of the furniture. By stacking the blocks spaces are created which became the rooms. Each room has a certain experience like the writer has a certain theme for each of their books. The first floor has a covered patio that has a low ceiling to imply calm activity within the space facing the garden. The staircase leading up to the second floor has a high ceiling indicating hat there is another space above; a skylight is place above the ceiling of the staircase to let sunlight through hinting again at the space above. On the second floor pointing north is the office space which is jetting out into the street giving a glimpse to the writer f the world outside and giving the world outside a glimpse of the house. The bedroom is pushed into the house closer to the ground on the second floor and the kitchen is extruded up the same amount as the bedroom is lowered; four feet. The roof shows where the house is being pulled up and the back facade of the house shows where the house is being pulled down into the first floor reaching closer to the ground.
