Miesel Yacht

Yachts are among the most luxurious items in the world, yet surprisingly they typically feature the same predictable and unimaginative designs, materials, and motifs.  The first prototype of a new “mega-yacht”, the Johnson 107, was entirely custom designed by STUDIO V and built in Asia with our direct supervision, for a private client.

We started by following residential and hospitality design, as opposed to typical marine design, to give this luxury yacht the character, proportions, and materials of a grand residence or hotel.  Beautifully proportioned sequences of spaces featuring extensive ribbon windows are punctuated with distinctive architectural features such as feature walls, coved ceilings, and built in furnishings.  Elegant and unusual material choices are consistently applied throughout to accentuate the residential character, including American sycamore wood panels, back painted glass, hand made walls, and woven sandalwood sun screens.  Indirect lighting accentuates the material choices.  The upper Fly Deck completes the architectural design with a sculptural asymmetrical canopy featuring an elliptical oculus over a rooftop hot tub.
