Haverhill District Court

Selected by DCAMM for design and construction administration services, Studio G completed a renovation and addition project at Haverhill District Courthouse in 2018. Accessibility, structural and energy efficiency upgrades, played a part in the courthouse’s enrichment, along with office renovations to improve the overall functioning of the courthouse.

To address the 1968 building’s lack of accessibility, Studio G designed renovations for all public spaces. A new ramp to the building’s front entry was seamlessly integrated into the building’s existing architecture. A distinctive 1,300 sf addition was added at the rear to introduce a new elevator and lobby, providing accessibility between floors for all building users, including detainees. The main courtroom, restrooms and customer transaction counters were made fully accessible; and MAAB variances were procured for areas where existing building constraints impeded necessary clearances.

Energy efficiency upgrades included a new HVAC system, high performance windows, and LED light fixtures throughout. Renovations also included reconditioning of original courtroom wood paneling, detailing and benches, and new finishes throughout.
