Hungarian Complex Museums

This project was developed during my internship in Lisbon, at the firm "Contacto Atlantico", to apply for the international competition in Budapest "LIGET Budapest".

This building complex is designed to be placed in Hungary, in the City Park, one of the oldest parks of Budapest, it consists of two separate buildings: the Hungarian Museum of Architecture and the Foto-Muzeum.
The project's concept aims to create a tight relationship between the buildings and the context, particularly with the central square called «Rondo» and the monument of 1956 in the centre.
Moreover the project aims to design sustainable architecture, therefore both buildings were designed with simple and compact shapes, with 3 floors of height, to reduce the surface area. The volumetric heat transfer coefficient (A/V) is under the requested value 0.30.
The museums present an alternation of filled and empty spaces. This alternation corresponds to different functions: the filled spaces host exhibitions area, offices, storage rooms and services; instead the empty spaces are designed to be area of transition and welcome, in fact they correspond to the entrance hall (ticketing, etc) and pedestrian area.
The empty spaces are completely glazed and the filled spaces are covered with fiber cement (with a
stone pattern) and brise soleil in wood.
