School of Image (3 800 m2 / 40 900 s.f.)

This project has two faces. The first face defines the School of Image as the presence of a new building that reinforces the “Terrasse de Provence.” The project finds its position at the north of the plot and frees the second face to the south, which creates an opening that offers an opportunity to transform an existing building. The school’s spatial arrangements tend to open the program spaces to the public both on the “Terrasse de Provence” and on the area in the center, which presents an “Agora” courtyard. The first idea that appeared obvious by its direct relation to the towers and bars of the context is the roof design. The project uses the principle of a reinterpreted “Shed” roof to serve the spaces of the school. The vertical opening signifies a relationship between the teaching spaces with the modernism of the towers and bars. Finally, the strong school’s presence in the urban landscape re-examines a dynamic in the heart of a district built in the 1960s.
